Ajak Pembaca Kamu Berimajinasi lewat Creative Writing

PERNAH dengar dua kata ini: creative writing? Admin pernah mengampu ekstrakurikuler ini ketika mengajar di SMA NSA (Nation Star Academy), Dharmahusada, Surabaya. Dulu namanya, SMA YPPI 1. Mereka menyebutnya HPP (Honing Potential Program), lalu ganti menjadi SSP (Sharpening Student Potential).

Untuk HPP atau SSP Creative Writing ini memang tidak banyak peminatnya. Harap dimaklumi, anak-anak SMP dan SMA itu, kalau memilih ekstrakurikuler, mencari yang tidak berat-berat. Creative Writing yang mengajak siswa berkreasi, berimajinasi dalam penulisan, terasa membosankan bagi dunia mereka.

Ya, creative writing merupakan teknik menulis yang berbasis ide atau gagasan dari si penulisnya, membuat pembacanya berimajinasi, bahkan mendapat imajinasi. Umumnya dikemas dengan bahasa ringan dan santai. Orang bisa meng-create cerita atau story sesuai dengan keliaran imajinasi di kepalanya.

Penulisan kreatif atau creative writing membantu siswa (ketika admin mengajar), bukan sekadar menajamkan tata bahasa, ejaan, dan kosa kata yang dipelajari di kelas reguler, tapi membuka peluang mengembangkan pandangan, persepsi, gagasan tanpa batasan. Siswa bisa mengungkapkan perasaannya mengenai dunia di dalam dan di luar kepalanya.

Karena berbasis imajinasi, maka output atau hasil karya siswa dalam creative writing ini berupa cerita fiksi. Secara bahasa, berasal dari bahasa Inggris, yaitu fiction yang berarti khayalan atau rekaan. Fiksi dapat didefinisikan sebagai prosa naratif bersifat karangan dan imajinasi non-ilmiah dan tidak berdasarkan kenyataan.

Apa contoh penulisan kreatif yang berupa fiksi itu? Bisa novel tradisional, cerita pendek, puisi dan sebagainya. Outputnya mencakup sejumlah genre dan gaya di luar lingkup penulisan yang berbasis nonfiksi seperti di jurnalistik atau skripsi di perkuliahan.

The Fishing Trip

One morning, at a nameless lake, a man and a boy coincidentally went fishing there on the same day. The boy never went to fish and only went to try experiencing something new, while the man was a veteran fisher who commonly went to fish there.

Coincidentally, the boy and man was fishing near each other. At the time, the boy simply took out his fishing rod and left it hanging near the lake and took out his game console to play. Seeing this, the man secretly felt disdain towards the boy who did not take fishing seriously like him.

But just as he thought so, something tugged on the boy’s fishing rod. Seeing this, the boy put down his game console and energetically pulled on his rod. Not long after, the boy managed to fish out the fish. Though it was not a big one, the boy was excited as he looked at his first catch.

Meanwhile, the man who was watching from far away sneered and thought in his mind, ‘Beginner’s luck.’ Before he went back to focus on fishing.

But after an hour, no fish came towards the man, while the boy has already caught more than five fish, with those that were caught after being bigger than the ones caught before.

Seeing this, the man thought in his mind, ‘The fishes must have converged over there.’ Thinking so, he then went closer towards the boy’s location. But he was too embarrassed to go too close, so he only approached until he is tens of meters away from the boy

But even after another hour, the man only managed to catch a small fish, because the fish was still too small and young, the man was forced to return the fish for the ecosystem in the lake. In the end, the man was saddened. It was already time for him to return and he did not manage to catch anything for his lunch.

Just as he was about to stand up and return to his home with empty stomach, he saw the boy approaching while holding onto a big fish. Thinking that he might be here to brag about his catch, the man was slightly angered. But to his surprise, when the boy arrived before him, he handed the fish to him and said, “Here mister, I caught too much. Since you seem to not have caught anything, you can have this.”

Then, the boy left with his catch while waving his hands towards the man. Seeing this, the man was ashamed at his acts and realized that it might have been his thoughts that made him unable to catch anything.

Kalau kamu pernah memelajari struktur penulisan berita, yang mungkin, ada di blog ini, cara penulisan kreatif (creative writing) berbeda. Creative writing menggunakan fokus pada beberapa elemen, seperti pengembangan narasi, karakter, plot, cerita, dan imajinasi. (*)
